Edward Scissorhands Essay Essay
Burtonââ¬â¢s educational film, Edward Scissorhands, demonstrated extraordinary dramatization using Edward and Kim who communicated incredible love for one another. However it turned into a disaster as the couple who were intended to be together were excessively unique in relation to one another. This paper, will outline the amount Edward adored Kim so much that he was eager to do anything for her, and the amount Kim cherished Edward so much that she relinquished her adoration to release him. The manner in which Burton utilized these two characters to show the reasonable perspective on what love is about and how love can be confused, will likewise be clarified. Burtonââ¬â¢s thoughts regarding love using these exceptional characters were an outrageous portrayal of society which made this film an extraordinary and noteworthy dramatization with the components of incredible love and incredible disaster. The primary thought that Burton communicated was the extraordinary love Edward had for Kim, yet with the impact of others their affection turned out to be excessively troublesome. Edward fell so profoundly infatuated with Kim, that he was happy to do ANYTHING for her. Edward helped Jim and Kim break into Jimââ¬â¢s home despite the fact that he realized it wasn't right. When Kim asked Edward for what reason he eagerly helped them, Edward answered, ââ¬Å"Because you asked me to. â⬠Edward demonstrated the amount he cherished Kim by the manner in which he considered the results on the off chance that he were to genuinely be with her. ââ¬Å"Hold me,â⬠Kim asked, yet Edward realized that in the event that he did, there would be a likelihood that he would hurt her with his scissorhands, so he replied, ââ¬Å"I canââ¬â¢t. â⬠Edwardââ¬â¢s love for Kim was likewise appeared through his activities of needing to secure Kim. Edward battled to shield Kim from Jim who continually hurt her truly as he booted her off him with his foot, yanked her away from Edward and had placed her life in peril by his foolish activities of needing to murder Edward. Edwardââ¬â¢s just method of preventing Jim from harming Kim and himself was to execute him. Jim made it unthinkable for Edward and Kim to be together a result of his need to control Kim. Edward Scissorhands investigates the possibility that a few people can't be together a direct result of their disparities, however can likewise be brought about by the impact of others round them. The idea of individuals who love one another but can't be together makes individuals unsatisfied in view of the conviction that couples should live cheerfully ever after, but Burton has made the inverse. Another thought introduced in this film is the measure of affection Kim had for Edward which was gigantic to such an extent that she let him go. In the mid-shot of Kim advising Edward to ââ¬Å"runâ⬠, her outward appearances indicated exactly the amount she thought about him. Kim realized that the individuals of Suburbia would not disregard Edward and it would cause an excess of contention on the off chance that he kept on remaining in Suburbia. The main way Edward would be sheltered is return back to his home where he had a place. Her adoration for him was additionally appeared in the scene when she told the individuals of Suburbia that Edward was dead. Her unadulterated white dress gave the impression of a blameless young lady which made it simpler for the group to trust her. Burton showed how troublesome it could be to be infatuated with somebody and the penances that will be made for the better of everybody, regardless of whether it intends to surrender love for affection. The narrative of ââ¬ËThe Beauty and the Beastââ¬â¢ was spoken to in this film; anyway it was revamped with a turn, as the Beauty and the Beast didn't live joyfully ever after. This understanding and adjustment of the ââ¬ËBeauty and the Beastââ¬â¢ story didn't satisfy Hollywoodââ¬â¢s hopes of a joyfully ever in the wake of completion, seeing that Edward and Kim didn't wind up together. The film isn't a ââ¬ËRomeo and Julietââ¬â¢ sentiment either as they didn't kick the bucket together demonstrating the amount they love one another, yet released each other for the better of the other individual. Edward and Kim saw that they couldn't be together so chosen the best intend to keep them two alive yet in addition glad, realizing that they attempted at affection. The most convincing part of the film was the possibility of a beast experiencing passionate feelings for a human where the crowd is set up for an energizing romantic tale. In any case, Burton changed the common Hollywood completion into a reality that would cause the crowd to feel aggravated. Burton developed the crowd for a far-fetched romantic tale, yet made the crowd pull for the couple, realizing that individuals ought to be together, couldn't be together. His arrangement to make the crowd pull for the couple to be together is the thing that caused the crowd to participate in the romantic tale and long for Kim and Edward to be a couple. However, in actuality the crowd realized that Edward and Kim would not turn out to be because of their disparities. As Edward said ââ¬Å"Goodbyeâ⬠, Kim kissed him and said ââ¬Å"I love youâ⬠then fled the scene. Burton demonstrated the truth of adoration and how a few connections are not intended to be expected to societyââ¬â¢s considerations and rules and in light of the fact that a few connections simply don't work out. Hollywood would let Kim and Edward be a couple as they generally attempt to figure out how to make the characters live cheerfully ever after. In any case, with Burton he indicated the truth of life and that they couldn't live cheerfully ever after. He indicated an outrageous case of what the general public would do if there was an individual like Edward on the planet today. He demonstrated that the probability of Edward and Kim being together is thin and life goes on. Love doesn't prevent individuals from living their own lives as long as they are upbeat. Edward and Kim kept on living their lives independently however are as yet content with their own lives. They have realized what it resembles to succumb to somebody they can't have and took the capable method of releasing their affection, instead of attempting to make it conceivable or biting the dust together like Romeo and Juliet. They depended on a result that will let them two live fulfilled lives without harming others however themselves. To sum up the numerous thoughts that Burton has created through Edward Scissorhands, his extraordinary portrayal of society and its guidelines let the crowd think about the importance of life, how individuals treat others and what incredible love could do to individuals. His message about affection mirroring the truth of life and how connections don't generally work out reminds the crowd that adoration isn't simple. The penances and the torment individuals experience while they are infatuated with an individual dislike the Hollywood motion pictures, which is the thing that made this film an extraordinary and essential dramatization.

Analysis Of The Poem Pudd - 1501 Words
Shem Biggie Mod. American Lit Puddââ¬â¢nhead Wilson Mark Twainââ¬â¢s book, Puddââ¬â¢nhead Wilson, was published in 1894 as a novel. This novel is set in a small town of Dawson s Landing, Missouri . With white picket fences, perfectly cut yards, and a cat in each window of every house; this town was a calm and beautiful place to reside. In the month of February, Dawson s Landing acquired a new citizen by the name of Davin Wilson. Born in the interior of the state of New York, he had come to Missouri to seek his fortune as a lawyer. He was twenty five years old, college bred, and had recently finished a course in an Eastern law school. He wouldââ¬â¢ve no doubt have entered a successful career in Dawson s Landing if it weren t for theâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦One of his highest moment of stupidity is when he reveals his plan to catch the thief that has been robbing the village blind, to the thief himself without even knowing it. Tom Driscoll, after getting himself into a considerable amount of debt, wanting to get himself w ritten back into his wealthy uncleââ¬â¢s will, starts stealing from the townspeople to pay off his debt to get himself back into the will. After stealing a precious Indian dagger from Luigi, one of the town s beloved twins, Tom gets himself in an intense mess. Not knowing the immense value of the dagger, Tom thought it would go unnoticed, but after finding it missing, Luigi goes into panic, resulting in the posting of a reward for the daggers return. Which results in David Wilsonââ¬â¢s brilliant plan: to post the reward to the public, so that if the thief were stupid enough to turn it in, he would be caught. But more likely, the thief would panic and try to pawn it as soon as possible. This is where is plan is put into action, for Wilson and the twins had alerted all the pawnshops in the general area that if anyone were to bring in the dagger, then they should be apprehended and the thief would be in custody and justice would be served. This is a very smart plan, and it would ve worked if Puddââ¬â¢nhead Wilson had not gone and told a group of visitors, including Tom: It was granted that this was plenty good enough circumstantial evidence. The Fundamental Principle Of Inclusive Schooling - 2000 Words
Meeting childrenââ¬â¢s needs is a vital aspect of teaching whereby the needs of all children must be taken into consideration. Teacherââ¬â¢s professional practice is developed over time in various ways, for example through experience and reflection (Tack et al, 2014). My professional practice was informed by Meeting Childrenââ¬â¢s Needs module as it educated me on how to assist children to become successful learners. This can be achieved through various strategies that meet the diverse needs of every child. The National Curriculum (National Curriculum, 2000) has at times been ambiguous on the matter of inclusion as it is a contentious term. A prominent philosophy within education was that children had to adapt themselves to classroom learning in orderâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Hence it is important that schools embrace diversity to ensure effective learning of all takes place. Each child is special and as a practitioner working with children I have to be aware of all iss ues surrounding childrenââ¬â¢s lives as outside factors affect learning. This essay will focus on the case studies of Charlotte and Pinkesh to illustrate how these case studies educated me on how to deal with children in similar situations and how my professional practice has been developed. These concepts of meeting childrenââ¬â¢s needs prepared me for my SEL experience in many ways. Firstly, it allowed me to understand the importance of inclusion and how this was crucial to effective learning. One pupil I profiled was Jake; not given a SEN statement, however the teacher ensured she differentiated, in turn enhancing his learning. Jake was very capable but he had behavioural issues and suffered from low self-esteem: very shy and liked working on his own. After his work was completed he would act out. This behaviour was similar to the case study of Charlotte as her behaviour deteriorated for attention. Charlotte just like Jake had low self-esteem; these children need to be given challenging work so they can reach their full potential. Maslow points to the importance of self-esteem and as a need by all to feel valued (Maslow, 1954, p.91). Banks has argued that having good
Business Plan of Millennium Mart-Free-Samples-Myassignmenthelp.com
Question: Discuss about the Business Plan of Millennium Mart. Answer: Millenium Mart is the first automated retail store in Australia which provides services to the customers round the clock. The retail store is trying to capture the market by providing the products to the customers at a discounted rate. Customers will get a chance to shop their everyday items at a much-reduced price. The company is a joint venture startup company and it will be one of the most successful food retailers in Australia (Cao, 2014). Millenium Mart will initially be set up by the private share of the owners and it is expected to expand in other countries in the future. The company will initially be set up two senior manager i.e. the owners of the company and 30 employees. It has planned for further expansion in other cities of Australia. The startup cost of the company will be financed by the two owners of the company and short term borrowing from some a financial institution. Millennium mart has planned to sell the same products like other retail stores in same quantity, p ackaging and quality like the other stores in Australia (McKeever, 2016). The company was set up with the objective that it will be able to open up more than five stores in different locations of Australia within two years of its inception. Capital will be invested in such a way so that the owners will be able to provide the customers the same variety of the products at a comparatively lower cost than other retail stores. Moreover, the successful operation of the store will also help in the provision of huge customer base so that they can be self-sufficient. The company has also targeted to achieve profitability within the first three years since its inception. The products sold in the store will be nationally or locally branded and there will be an automatic vending machine in the store for purchase of items such as chocolates, chips, cold drinks and many items. The customers can also create personal account and thus they can see their previous shopping list that will make their purchase of grocery items cheaper.Millenium Mart will also have the provision of automated interactive customer service representative that will solve or answer the queries of the customers. Moreover, this customer service representative will also pass their queries to the management if they are not able to solve it (Coglianese, 2016). As Australia is an important hub for retail stores, it will be beneficial for Millenium Mart to start up its business venture in this country and other neighboring cities of Australia. The country has a huge competitive base and educated workers that will help in the development of the company in a short span of time. The government of Australia also encourages the retailers to provide job opportunities to the local people. There are certain economic factors, which are important for Millenium Mart and this, are likely to affect the price, profit and demand of the products in the long run. These economic factors are beyond the control of the company; however their effect lays an important contribution on the development of the company (Fayolle Lin, 2014). On the other hand, the cultural trends of the people of Australia also affect the operation of Millenium Mart. The supply chain and the value added products must be developed which will help in the smooth operation of Millenium Mart (Hair, 2015). As the consumers are becoming aware of the quality of the product and the related health benefits, it is challenging for the company to accommodate to the demand of the customers. Moreover, technology is also an important macro-environment variable which has influenced the operation of Millenium Mart. The new technology which is adapted by the company has benefitted the customers as well as the company. The launch of vending machine in the stores has benefitted the customers to a large extent. Environmental issues are threatening the management committee of Millenium Mart and thus the company is trying to act in a more responsible way towards protecting the environment. The corporate social responsibility of the company is farmed in such a way so that it will not exceed the minimum obligations that are imposed on the stakeholders (Ward, 2016). The grocery market in Australia is dominated by several supermarkets and becomes challenging for Millenium Mart to capture the market . It is important to develop the operating efficiency and cost advantageous position. The threat of new entrants is comparatively high in this industry. The suppliers of Millenium Mart are threatened by the large suppliers who provides the product at a much cheaper price. Moreover, the forces of competitive rivalry has reduced the profit margin of the company (Shabanova et al., 2015). The threat of substitutes in the retail market of Australia is high. The bargaining powers of the customers are also high because the customers are more aware of the issues related to retail stores in Australian market. The consumers are also increasingly demanding good quality products at an affordable rate and in a highly competitive market, the bargaining power of the competitors is high in this industry (Le et al., 2013). Millenium Mart has a strong customer base and deliver better service to the customers which are regarded as the strength of the company. The profitability of the company is excepted to decline with the lower level of efficiency cost. The company is providing the service to cater to the needs of the people and thus enjoy high growth rate. However, the threat of Millenium mart can be the highly competitive retail market in Australia. In Mac Kinsey 7-S Farmework, the strategy of Millenium Mart is to expand the business in other international market. There are certain guidelines for the managers of Millenium Mart and the business process can be referred to as decentralized business. The IT team in the company can manage the flow of information and follow a differentiated human resource policy. Millenium mart also ensures customer satisfaction. The human resource professional of the company practice strategic human resource management in hiring the employees. Thus, it can be said that the company must introduce loyalty card in order to ensure customer satisfaction in the organization (Hassan, Sistani Raju, 2014). In every business organization or business industry, there are certain risks which it has to overcome in order to become successful. As there are huge competitors in the retail industry of Australia, Millenium Mart will have to overcome different types of risks if it does not carry out proper market research before setting up their stores in Australia. The supply chain management and the inability of the organization to analyze the government rules and regulations are aso considered as an important risks which affects the functioning of the organization. The political conditions, economic conditions, legal obligations and other financial risk must also be overcomed by the organization (Ferraro Briody, 2017). Millenium Mart must try to design the best practices for its rapid expansion in the domestic as well as in the global market. The company will focus on hiring the employees, operation managers and the business development managers who can help in the successful working of the organization. The company while taking important decisions related to pricing and other strategies must involve its employees who can convey the market demands and the grievances of the customers for the development of the organization (Yilmaz Flouris, 2017). Millenium Mart must also have the provision of providing rewards and recognitions to the employees who played successful role for increasing the profitability of the organization. The company must also design an appropriate cost saving strategy for the business so that it can earn more profit and save its financials for the development of the organization. Therefore, it can be said that the company must try to develop strategies for employee motivation and employee engagement to maintain high performance in the organization (Rajaram, 2014). Thus, it is vital for Millenium Mart to conduct proper survey of the market conditions and the demands of the customer in order to be successful in the long run. The company must also try to introduce unique range of products at an affordable cost which will make it easier to compete in the retail market. Millenium mart must focus on improving the packaging style so that it will attract the customers. It must try to develop more in-house products to carry out the competitive pricing system in the economy. Moreover, attractive discounts must also be provided to the customers so that they visit the store and also refer their friends and relatives. The company must employ the staff who are more efficient and quick in dealing with the requests of the customers. The company must also start using the digital space through the introduction of digital image, 360 degree imagery and video content that will help in improving the online as well as the offline shopping mode. This will also make i t visually appealing for the customers. The company must also try to develop the mobile payment app that will help the customers to make payment in a quick span of time. Thus, it can be said that Millenium Mart have to deal with tough competition and maintain higher profitability in the market. References Cao, L. (2014). He is well known for his poems depicting the rural countryside of New England and his universally relatable themes. Frost endured a rough upbringing and tragic events later in life; however, he had an explosive career of writing poetry in New England and America. Frost was also well respected for being a teacher and his speeches. Robert Frost is one of Americaââ¬â¢s greatest poetry writers, teachers and public speakerââ¬â¢s, who had a long and influential career and delivered a unique style and powerful themes in his work. Robert Lee Frost was born in San Francisco, California on March 26, 1874. His father, William Prescott Frost, Jr. , was a journalist and New England transplant who named him after his personal hero, Robert E Lee. During Robert Frostââ¬â¢s childhood, ââ¬Å"his father drank hard, carried a pistol, and kept a jar of pickled bull testicles on his desk, while his mother suffered from depressionâ⬠(Shmoop Editorial Team). Despite these troubled years, Frost graduated from Lawrence High School in 1892 as co-valedictorian. ââ¬Å"From an early age, he was exposed to reading and writing and the works of William Shakespeare, Robert Burns, and William Wordsworthâ⬠(Merriman). He enrolled at Dartmouth College, but dropped out after one semester in order to work. For the next two years he struggled with two of his goals: successfully getting a poem published and getting his co-valedictorian to marry him. She was not impressed with his attempt to win her over with a printed book of his poetry. In distraught, he took off to Dismal swamp, a place where poets like to write about their heartsick feelings. While there, he joined a group of duck hunters and eventually returned to Lawrence with a changed attitude. He had a new theme that appeared frequently in his poetry. The theme was about setting out alone into nature and losing oneself in the wild. Upon his return from the Dismal swamp, his first poem, My Butterfly was published in November 1894. The next December, he married his love, Elinor. Robert Frost and his new wife Elinor White began their life together teaching but things changed very quickly for them. In September 1896, they had their first son, Elliott. Then in 1897, Frost enrolled at Harvard, but was forced to leave before finishing his degree to support their growing family as they had a daughter, Lesley, on the way. Very soon after her birth, Elliott died of Cholera at four years old. They moved to a farm in Derry, New Hampshire that was given to Frost by his grandfather. Over the next 10 years, they farmed poultry and had four more children, the youngest of which died a few days after birth. They also taught English at local Pinkerton Academy. During this time, Frost had almost no success getting his poetry published; however, the time spent on the farm did inspire some future works. He also formed a love of nature, the great outdoors and rural countryside. (Merriman) By 1911, Frost decided it was time to sell the farm and move the family to Great Britain where it was cheaper to live and he had the best chance of becoming a professional poet. It was here that he befriended a few ââ¬Å"literary notablesâ⬠that helped him launch his career. Within a few months of moving to England, at 38 years old, Robert Frost truly began his career as a poet and found a publisher that would publish his first two books of poems, A Boyââ¬â¢s Will, and North of Boston. ââ¬Å"He also met two poets who would affect his life and career in significant ways, Ezra Pound and Edward Thomasâ⬠(Bio. com). They were the first to review his work and provide encouragement. Frost gave credit to Thomasââ¬â¢ long walks over the English landscape and indecisiveness and regret of which path to take as inspiration for one of his most famous poems, The Road Not Taken. Bio. com). Time spent in England was cut short for Frost when World War I broke out in 1914. When he brought his family back home to the United States in 1915, he was already well known in the poetry and publishing world. His publisher, Henry Holt, who would remain with him for the rest of his life, had purchased all of the copies of North of Boston, and in 1916, he published Frost ââ¬â¢s Mountain Interval, a collection of other works that he created while in England, including a tribute to Thomas. (Bio. com) These works included poems that had been rejected to publishers in England. Frost purchased a farm in New Hampshire and began teaching at Amherst College. This was the first of many positions he held at American universities over the following 45 years. ââ¬Å"Frost was almost as famous for teaching poetry as he was for writing itâ⬠(Shmoop Editorial Team). He became the first ever writer-in-residence at a university when he began a summer teaching position at Bread Loaf School of English at Middlebury College in 1921. During this time, he was known for being a well-liked instructor, reciting poetry to the public, and for writing. After moving to Shaftsbury, Vermont in 1920, he put together a new series of poems published as the collection, New Hampshire, in 1922. This set of works included Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening and earned him his first Pulitzer prize in 1923 and, ââ¬Å"from here, his career was off and runningâ⬠(Shmoop Editorial Team). Frost continued his career of reading, writing and publishing poetry and teaching for the next almost 40 years. He went on to win three more Pulitzer Prizes for Collected Poems in 1931, Further Range in 1936, and A Witness Tree in 1943. His schedule for public speaking was so demanding that his wife Elinor became a secretary for him. By the 1940ââ¬â¢s, Frost was undisputedly the grand master of American poetry as awards, honorary degrees, and teaching appointments at the countryââ¬â¢s finest universities were heaped upon him. (Shmoop Editorial Team) By this time in his life he had unfortunately already lost his wife to a hear attack, a son to suicide, and a daughter who was giving birth. Poetry seemed to be what held him together during such tragedies. His poetry actually lightened in intensity after World War II when he published the collection Steeple Bush in 1947. He made a triumphant return to England in 1957, where his poetry was never sufficiently appreciated, to receive honorary degrees from Oxford and Cambridge. (Pritchard, Burnshaw) In 1961, an admirer of his, John F. Kennedy asked Frost to read a poem at his inauguration. ââ¬Å"By then 86 years old, the poetââ¬â¢s handling of an unexpected snafu at the event only cemented his stellar reputationâ⬠(Shmoop Editorial Team) Frost had written a new poem, Dedication for the event but wasnââ¬â¢t able to read it because of glare and ended up reciting his poem, The Gift Outright, about the founding of America. Kennedy then returned the favor by speaking at the inauguration of the Robert Frost Library in Amherst, Masachusettes in October 1963. At 88 years old, Frost died a couple months later on January 29, 1963 from complications from prostate surgery. He was buried in Bennington, Vermont, under a self-written epitaph that summed up his complicated relationship with life: ââ¬Å"I had a loverââ¬â¢s quarrel with the world. â⬠Frost undoubtedly had a very long and successful career of teaching and writing poetry. Robert Frost was one of Americaââ¬â¢s greatest poets and had many different aspects to his style of poetry. President Kennedy said, ââ¬Å"His life and his art summed up the essential qualities of the New England, he loved so much: the fresh delight in Nature, the plainness of speech, the canny wisdom, and deep underlying insight into the human soulâ⬠(Tanvir). Frost often wrote his poems with characters and events of rural New England, but would make the stories highly universal for such a regional focus. Even with nature playing a major role in most of his work, he said himself, ââ¬Å"I guess Iââ¬â¢m not a nature poet. I have only written two poems without a human-being in themâ⬠(Tanvir). He also incorporates symbolism into his work with many poems having a surface meaning as well as a deep symbolical meaning. His poem, Mending Wall, means ââ¬Å"good fences make good neighborsâ⬠; however, on a deeper level relates to the dilemma between strengthening of natural boundaries for protection and removing them because they restrict progress toward ââ¬Å"international brotherhoodâ⬠(Tanvir). Frost is often regarded as a great introduction to the study of poetry because of his ââ¬Å"simplicityâ⬠and lucidityâ⬠on the surface as well as the ââ¬Å"subtletyâ⬠and complexityâ⬠that is revealed after becoming familiar with his work. Tanvir) Frostââ¬â¢s structure and technique was so flexible that even when he didnââ¬â¢t follow a rhyme scheme or have an evenly versed poem, the words always flowed with elegance. He was a realist in that he would be honest and not sugar-coat things in his writing. It was important for him to always have confide nce in his knowledge of the subjects of his work. ââ¬Å"His attitude towards Nature is one or armed and amicable true and mutual respect. He recognizes and insists upon the boundaries which exist between individual man and the forces of Natureâ⬠(Tanvir). Frost is undoubtedly passionate about this belief and respect of nature as it appears in many of his poems. Frost has been characterized as a modernist and experimental poet for his style, form, and techniques were always evolving. One constant for Frost is that he seems to believe that the universe includes three orders of being ââ¬â man, Nature, and God. (Tanvir) Robert Frost also incorporated major themes into his poems. A theme that appears frequently in his work is about manââ¬â¢s isolation in the universe and sense of alienation from his environment. This is largely due to the ragedies that struck him and his family. His poetry expressed his feelings of loneliness in the world around him. There are also themes of self discovery and love. In most of him poems, the speaker, whether intentional or not, discovers who they are and it is often through love. This helps the speaker to power through the challenging forces that the universe presents. Frost portrays these themes wh ile always maintaining his respect for Nature and the universe we live in. One of Robert Frost most famous poems is ââ¬Å"Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Eveningâ⬠. He wrote this poem in June 1922 at his home in Shaftsbury, Vermont. The idea came to him as he was wrapping up writing on his poem, New Hampshire. The poem was then published in his New Hampshire volume in 1923. ââ¬Å"Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Eveningâ⬠Whose woods these are I think I know. His house is in the village, though; He will not see me stopping here To watch his woods fill up with snow. My little horse must think it queer To stop without a farmhouse near Between the woods and frozen lake The darkest evening of the year. He gives his harness bells a shake To ask if there is some mistake. The only other sounds the sweep Of easy wind and downy flake. The woods are lovely, dark, and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep. On a suface level, this poem is about the speaker traveling through the woods on a snowy evening admiring natureââ¬â¢s beauty but realizing there is a long way still to be traveled before nightfall and there is no time to rest. Frost has used a unique rhyme scheme in this poem as the first, second, and fourth lines rhyme in each stanza, and the third does not; however, it sets up the rhyme for the subsequent stanza. This is a perfect example of his experimental form that works for him every time despite its difficulty. On a deeper level this poem is about Frostsââ¬â¢ appreciation for nature and despite his lonliness, nature is calming to him and makes him feel at home. This poem, in itself, personifies Frost as a person and a poet. Robert Frost played a signifcant role in the history of American poetry. Despite a rocky start to writing he managed to show off his talent and begin getting his work published. Before long, his career exploded and he had become a four time Pulitzer Prize winner. He became known for his love of nature and incorporating images of the rural countryside of New England into his work. After enduring the tragedies of family members dying, many of his poems were about manââ¬â¢s isolation in the universe and finding oneââ¬â¢s identity. This was a direct reflection of what he was going through personally. Robert Frost and his poetry will continue to be well-recognized for years to come.

Although it has not been specified if AdebolaJo is a member of a particular group, he as still been highly effected by al-Qaeda and considers them close Islam brothers (even though he does not know any). This Just emphasizes how countries, or the religion itself, must put a stop to the extremist Muslim groups. Several people are being targeted and now they are targeting the bravest people in a nation, the soldiers. If a citizen is not aware of this, these groups will become larger and larger and more lives will be taken. If people take a stand against these groups and emphasize the harm they are doing to everyday citizens and future damage that can be made, then these groups will slowly be put to an end.

The Latin Word for Breathe Inspired Many English Terms
The Latin Word for Breathe Inspired Many English Terms The Latin Word for Breathe Inspired Many English Terms The Latin Word for Breathe Inspired Many English Terms By Mark Nichol The Latin verb spirare, meaning ââ¬Å"breathe,â⬠is the source of a number of verbs (and other parts of speech). Hereââ¬â¢s a summary of these words and their meanings. Aspire literally means ââ¬Å"breathe onâ⬠; the connotation is that one breathes heavily with the exertion of aspiring to a goal. The modern sense of aspire is ââ¬Å"try to be or do something,â⬠and the noun form aspirant refers to someone who is a candidate or contestant. To conspire (the word literally means ââ¬Å"breath togetherâ⬠) is to plot, or plan a scheme with others. Plotters are also called conspirators, and conspiracy is a synonym for plot. Expire means ââ¬Å"breathe outâ⬠but usually connotes the end of an offer or of a productââ¬â¢s shelf life; the noun form is expiration. (In Latin, expirare also meant ââ¬Å"die,â⬠and this sense carried over into English, although it is now rare.) The literal meaning of inspire is ââ¬Å"breathe inâ⬠; the figurative sense derived from the idea that a deity breathes life into a mortal. The verb and the noun now chiefly pertain to that sense- of having an emotion or a feeling that prompts one to create or to cause something to happen. (An inspiration can also be someone or something that has a role in the accomplishment of a creative act or an event.) Perspire, meaning ââ¬Å"breathe through,â⬠is associated with the production of sweat; the noun form is perspiration. The verb respire (literally, ââ¬Å"breathe againâ⬠) is rare, but the noun form respiration, which refers to the breathing cycle of inhaling oxygen into the body and exhaling carbon dioxide, is common. Suspire (literally, ââ¬Å"breathe underâ⬠) is a rare synonym for sigh. Transpire, which literally means ââ¬Å"breathe (or evaporate) across,â⬠refers to evaporation of water from leaves (a process called transpiration) but has, by extension, come to mean ââ¬Å"become knownâ⬠as well as ââ¬Å"happenâ⬠or ââ¬Å"occur,â⬠now the predominant senses of the word. Two technical terms derived from the Latin root are spirant, a linguistic term for a breathy consonant, and spirometer, the name of a device for measuring lung capacity; the principle is called spirometry. Finally, a related term is spirit. The word has multiple meanings: It became associated with divine power (see the reference to the figurative sense of inspire above) and, by extension, came to pertain to oneââ¬â¢s character or nature, or the essential principle of something, and to denote courage, enthusiasm, or vigor. (Also based on the supernatural sense, it serves as a synonym for ghost.) In addition, it acquired in alchemy an association with volatile substances and ultimately came to be applied to alcoholic beverages. (Spire, referring to a tapering element such as the pinnacle of a tower, comes from an unrelated word for a sharp point; spear, however, is cognate with spire. Spiral, likewise, is unrelated both to the -spire family of words and to spire and spear.) Want to improve your English in five minutes a day? ECO BUS 4 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
ECO BUS 4 - Essay Example 7. The manager expects to be shown the respect due to his position and this will mean that, from a Western perspective, an undue amount of deference may be shown. Respect is given for position held, but age is also worthy of respect. It is difficult, therefore, for older Taiwanese to accept being managed by younger expatriate managers. Equally, a younger western manager on a trade mission is likely to be less well received than a visibly older colleague. 10. Taiwanese will make effective group members, they like working in an harmonious environment but they expect to be given directions by the senior team member, but when working with a Taiwanese team one has try to avoid incidents that may cast a member in bad light in front of other members of the group. Company A is a US based Company, the culture usually followed there is ââ¬Å"democratic managementâ⬠. The opinions of all concerned parties are considered before the decision is taken unlike in the Taiwan management where dictatorial style is followed and it would not be considered proper if an employee intervenes in the managementââ¬â¢s key decision. Therefore while operating there, the most important decision for the A company would be the hiring of the Manager. If a local manager is appointed, he shall have more knowledge of the local markets and will be able to communicate more properly. Company A has to focus its attention to create an environment where the employees will participate in the decision making process and the Manager has to learn to give importance to the ideas generated by the employees even in the lower chain of command. He has to learn to accept that he will gain respect with his abilities as a manager and not because of his position. Company A may also appoint a Manager who does not belong to that culture. For example, he may be transferred here because of his interactive managerial skills and analytical decision making. Such manager will already have an idea of the

Nineteenth Century Sensational Fiction: Dime Novels Essay example -- L
à Nineteenth Century Sensational Fiction: Dime Novels In the late nineteenth century, a new form of sensational fiction emerged.à Called dime novels because of the five to twenty-five cent sale price, these pocket-sized books told short stories of American frontier adventure.à Often formulaic, these stories centered on macho heroes and damsels in distress, never venturing far beyond plotlines of capture and rescue, pursuit and escape.à Violence and lewdness became the impetus for the popularity of this form which, because of its cheapness, was often passed along to friends and neighbors upon completion.à The serial nature of these stories, which featured a set number of identifiable characters such as Deadwood Dick and Calamity Jane, kept readers coming back for more. à à à Not surprisingly, many young readers, boys especially, were drawn to the sense of adventure and rebellion in dime novels.à Gratuitous gore and debauchery were also points of attraction.à These unsavory qualities became a major concern of parents who felt that their sons were being negatively influenced, perhaps into a life of crime and banditry.à Still, the mass production of dime novels made it easy for boys to obtain them even without parental permission.à Almost every newsstand or corner bookstore had copies of the latest bloody Western and they were more than willing to sell regardless of the buyerââ¬â¢s age. à à à The quality of dime novels began to decline as it became custom for publishers such as Beadle to allow several authors to write on the same serial or character interchangeably.à Eventually the plots became so predictable that the only selling points were increasingly fantastical settings, unbelievable situations and more vulgarity.à What... ...his proliferation of ââ¬Å"questionableâ⬠content has proven that the average American reader makes choices based on personal tastes rather than on the opinions of highbrow academia or moral crusaders.à It is a victory of free speech as well as the capitalistic principle of demand but also perhaps a blow to artistic integrity.à Concerned parents and religious groups continue to fight against indecency but consumerism has become the most powerful modern censor.à Today, sales are so important that many authors find themselves tethered to a narrowing range of themes and situations that appeal to an increasingly homogenized audience.à As far as the corruption of youth is concerned, most parents today echo Bishopââ¬â¢s sentiments that any book is better than no book, pleased to see their children reading formulaic adventure stories or comics rather than glued to a television set.

ICRC and onternational law Essay
The ICRC started when Swiss businessman Henri Dunant traveled to Italy to meet with Emperor Napoleon III of France . Before he reached Napoleon he first passed through the town of Solferino where a battle was fought. On that day over 40,000 soliders on both sides fell; many were left to die on the battlefield without adequate care. Henry Dunant was shocked by the terrible aftermath of the battle. Instead of proceeding with his planned trip he spent the next few days tending to the wounded. Through his example, the local population began to administer aid without discrimination. When he returned home, he wrote a book called A Memory of Solferino. He sent copies of the book to political and military leaders throughout Europe . He advocated the formation of a national voluntary relief organization to help nurse the wounded and for the development of international treaties to safeguard the neutrality and protect those wounded on the battlefield. By February 9, 1863, Henry Dunant founded the Committee of the Five as an investigatory commission of the Geneva Society for Public Welfare. Their aim was to examine the feasibility of Dunantââ¬â¢s ideas and to organize an international conference about their possible implementation. In October 26, 1863, the international conference organized by the Committee was held in Geneva to develop possible measures to improve medical services on the battlefield. A conference attended by many European states resolved the following: The foundation of national relief societies for wounded soldiers. Neutrality and protection for those wounded. Utilizing volunteer forces for relief assistance on the battlefield. The organization of additional conferences to enact these concepts in legally binding international treaties. The introduction of a common distinctive protective symbol for medical personnel in the field, specifically a white armlet bearing the red cross. Within a year, specific grounds were developed for the recognition of a national relief society by the International Committee; namely: The national society must be recognized by its own national government as a relief society according to the convention, and the national government of the respective country must be a state party to the Geneva Convention. The Commissionââ¬â¢s first great achievement occurred on 22 August 1864 when the conference adopted the first Geneva Convention ââ¬Å"for the Amelioration of the Condition of the Wounded in the Armies in the field. â⬠A total of four Geneva Conventions have been passed since then. With successive conventions aimed an improving or updating previous conventions to ensure that they are up to date with current technology and norms. Today there are 185 national Red Cross societies and over 1,330 employees directly under the ICRC assigned to field operations. All thanks to the initiative of one man. III. ICRC as a Driving Force in IHL The ICRC draws its authority to act principally from the Geneva Conventions and their additional protocols. The Geneva Conventions from the First to the Fourth are the primary international treaties that limit the cruelty of war. They are meant to protect people who do not take part in the fighting, such as civilians, medics and aid workers. They also protect hors de combat or those who no longer have the means to continue fighting such as the wounded, sick, shipwrecked or those who have surrendered. The Geneva Conventions have been acceded to by 194 States and enjoy universal acceptance as a form of custom. The Geneva Conventions then are the primary documents governing International Humanitarian Law and the main overseer of International Humanitarian Law is the ICRC. However, the provisions of the present Convention constitute no obstacle to the humanitarian activities which the International Committee of the Red Cross or any other impartial humanitarian organization may, subject to the consent of the Parties to the conflict concerned, undertake for the protection of civilian persons and for their relief[2]. Article 10 is of considerable value in the field of international law because faced with the barbaric reality of war, the law continues to be realistic and humane. It keeps in mind the object of the Convention, namely the protection of human life and peace between man and man, conscious that it is only a means. (a ridiculously weak means compared to the forces of war) of attaining this goal. When everything has been settled by legal means ââ¬âordinary and extraordinaryââ¬âby assigning rights and duties, by obligations laid upon the belligerents and by the mission of the protecting powers, a corner was still found for something which no legal text can prescribe. However this niche was the most effective means of combating war. That niche is charity or the spirit of peace. This is where Article 10ââ¬â¢s symbolic value can be seen. Through it, Henry Dunantââ¬â¢s action on the field of battle in Solferino. Article 10 is more than a tribute to Henry Dunant. It is an invitation to all men of good will to continue his work[3]. In order for the ICRC and subordinate National Commissions to effectively perform their role, members are granted considerable rights and privileges. For example, all Red Cross members have the right to wear the Red Cross, (or crescent in Muslim States). Wearing this mark affords immunity, for all practical purposes from violence by the combatants because, as outlined in Additional Protocol No. 1 of the Geneva Conventions[4] the Red Cross is the mark associating a vehicle, person or building with the ICRC and is sacrosanct and protected[5]. However, any use not expressly authorized by International Humanitarian Law constitutes misuse of the emblem and releases combatants from the obligation to respect the symbol. The types of misuse are Imitation, Usurpation and Perfidy. In fact, Improper use of distinctive emblems in a war crime committed when, in an international armed conflict, an intent to use them for combatant purposes prohibited under international law[6]. Owing to the ICRCââ¬â¢s unique position as the actual commission that proposes and puts forth the Geneva Conventions and other major IHL documents, it can be said that ICRC is the Organization that created IHL. The latter will of course continue to develop as time goes by. Other documents of international law respecting human rights and with respect to international crimes have evolved since then. But International Humanitarian Law began with Henry Dunant and his desire to help the wounded in Solferino.

All about the C# Programming Language
Year of Creation?: 2000. C# is the main programming language of the Microsoft .NET framework and has had millions of dollars spent developing and promoting it. In under 6 years it has become a rising star and may yet rise to rival Java. Why was C# Invented?: Because Sun wouldnt allow Microsoft to make changes to Java. Microsoft had had a product Visual J but the changes they had made upset Sun and so it came to a halt. What is C# used for?: All sorts of applications ranging from computer games, utilities, Operating Systems and compilers. There are also web based applications running on the asp.net platform. What versions of C# are there?: The current version is 2.0 and that came out with Microsoft Visual Studio 2005. Version 3.0 is being developed. Does C# present any problems for novice Programmers?: C# is a comprehensive language with many advanced features, especially in version 2.0 such as generics. To get the best out of C#, knowledge of Object Oriented Programming is essential. Syntactically it has a lot in common with Java. How would you sum up C#?: C# is a modern programming language and is really only rivalled by Java. It does though require the .NET framework on Windows. There remains a substantial body of code written in C and it seems that C# will coexist with C rather than replace it. C# is an ECMA (European Computer Manufacturers Association) and ISO standard and this has allowed other implementations such as the Linux project Mono to happen.
